Multi Event Stars to start in Hexham

Top class decathletes and heptathletes from around the world will be coming to Hexham on 9/10 July for the annual International Combined Events meeting.

Last weekend, Team GB star Jessica Ennis-Hill produced her best score since London 2012, and some of her rivals will be in Hexham to try and qualify for the Rio Olympic Games which start in 5 weeks time.

HEPTATHLETE Jessica Zelinka (CAN) has a personal best of 6,599pts (6th in London ’12 and 5th in Beijing ’08) and will be the star attraction along with New Zealand number one Veronica Torr (PB – 6,051pts).  The start list of 12 heptathletes will be aiming at the 6,200 point standard to book their ticket to Rio.

In the DECATHLON Ingmar Vos (NED) is the class act with a best of 8,224pts. The Dutch all rounder will also be looking for the 8,100pts qualifying mark. USA decathlete Tom Hopkins (PB 7485pts) will also be making the start line after failing to make the US Trials. The Santa Barbara based athlete will be joined by Frenchman Basdile Rolnin (PB 7679pts) all looking to get over the 8000 point mark for the first time at Hexham.

The meeting starts at 10.30am on Saturday 9th July at Wentworth Leisure Centre, Hexham
